TOQUE DE CAVALARIA FITTED CAP

The Toque de Cavalaria (Cavalry Rhythm) emerged in the 19th century, collectively created by capoeiristas on the streets of Salvador, Bahia – Brazil. It served as a warning signal to alert practitioners of the approaching police cavalry, who patrolled the city on horseback. Upon hearing the rhythm, capoeiristas knew it was time to disguise themselves, scatter, or hide quickly — thus avoiding repression or the interruption of the capoeira circle.
